Life here

What it is actually like

Written to be accurate rather than appealing. If this page oversells the firm and you join on the strength of it, both of us find out within the year — and this is a small enough community that everyone else finds out too.

The proposition

What a firm this size can offer

Two things the company says about itself, in its own words, that are worth repeating because they are unusually specific for a statement of values: we are an analyst-owned company, and we believe in two things — the mission, and the person doing the work.

Everything below is a consequence of the firm being small and being run by analysts. None of it is a benefit a large prime could not also fund; all of it is a consequence of a structure a large prime does not have.

  • Leadership are analysts

The firm was founded in 2006 by career intelligence analysts and is still run by them. When you explain a judgment, you are explaining it to someone who has had to make the same call.

  • The structure is flat and stays flat

Limited overhead, few layers. There is no career ladder to climb before your assessment reaches someone who can act on it, and no account manager translating your work into a status report.

  • Latitude on site

The firm’s own framing: limber and flexible at the corporate level, which is what allows employees to be that way on site. In practice that means the corporate side is built to get out of the way.

  • Variety, because the firm is small

Supply chain risk, corporate due diligence, counterintelligence, insider threat. A small company cannot afford to keep an analyst in one narrow lane for years, which turns out to be good for the analyst.

  • People who have served

The majority of employees have military backgrounds, most with operational deployment experience. It shows in how the work gets talked about.

  • Work that has been recognized

Employees have received individual and team Director of National Intelligence awards — individually, and as teams.

The other side

What a firm this size is not

A small company is a genuine trade, not a free upgrade. These are the things people miss when they move from a large prime, and they are worth knowing before you apply rather than after you accept.

There is no large internal job market
At a big prime, changing work can mean changing contracts without changing employers. Here, if the work you want is not work the firm holds, the honest answer is that it is not available — not that it might open up in a reorganization.
The bench is thin
A small firm cannot always park you between assignments while something better comes along. That is the direct trade for the low overhead that makes everything else on this page possible.
Fewer formal programs
No large internal training catalog, no rotational scheme, no structured mentoring program with a name. What exists instead is proximity to people who have done the work, which suits some analysts and genuinely does not suit others.
You will be visible
In a firm this size there is nowhere to be quietly average, and no crowd to develop in slowly. For most people who choose a small company that is the appeal. It is worth being honest that it is not universally comfortable.
Most of the work is on customer site
This is not a remote-first company. The firm does most of its work on site, and the office in Alexandria is open by appointment rather than being where the work happens.

If reading that list makes the firm sound wrong for you, it probably is, and finding that out now costs neither of us anything.

Do not take our word for it

Ask someone who works here

The company has made a standing offer for years, and it is repeated here deliberately: ask a current or former member of the IAI team what they think of the company.

It is an unusually confident thing for an employer to put in writing, and it is the only claim on this page that does not need to be taken on trust. Cleared analysis is a small community. If you do not already know someone who has worked here, you are probably two introductions away.

The office is at 7686 Richmond Highway, Suite 203B, Alexandria, VA 22306-2844. We do most of our work on site, but our office is open by appointment.

Talent Network

Introduce yourself

This is a small firm, and the odds that the right role happens to be live on the day you look are not good. Billets open at short notice on contracts already held, and this list exists so that when one does there are already people to call. There is no automated pipeline behind it — it goes to a person, and a person reads it.

Disciplines, mission areas, and the kind of work you want next. Please do not include classified or sensitive detail, your current assignment, or your clearance particulars — a couple of sentences is enough to start a conversation.

Goes to resumes@intel-analysis.com and nowhere else. Not stored in a database, never shared, and not added to any marketing list.

Or email resumes@intel-analysis.com directly with a résumé attached. That works today and reaches the same person.
